Congratulations to Lothian and Borders Police on potential record drug seizure levels9.30.00am GMT Wed 20th Jan 2010
Mike Pringle MSP has submitted a parliamentary motion praising Lothian and Borders Police for their success in seizing over £1.9 million of Class A drugs in the last nine months. If seizure rates are maintained the force is odds on to seize a record level of drugs in a calendar year. Mike Pringle said "This is excellent news. Since the establishment of the Serious Organised Crime Unit Lothian and Borders Police force's continuing efforts to tackle drug crime have gone from strength to strength. "They deserve all the plaudits they are receiving and I'm sure we all wish them every success in their ongoing battle against drugs." The full text of Mike Pringle's motion was as follows S3M-05534 Mike Pringle (Edinburgh South) (Scottish Liberal Democrats): Congratulations to Lothian and Borders Police- That the Parliament congratulates Lothian and Borders Police on seizing almost £1.5 million worth of cocaine in the last nine months; commends the Serious Organised Crime Unit that was launched in September 2009 for its role in the proactive approach that Lothian and Borders Police are taking to tackling drug crime; notes that, if seizure rates are maintained, Lothian and Borders Police are on course to beat both of its previous records of £1.9 million worth of cocaine and £2.4 million worth of class A drugs, consisting almost entirely of cocaine and heroin, seized in a calendar year, and wishes Lothian and Borders Police every success in its continuing efforts to tackle drug crime.
