Mike Pringle MSP calls for Gaza Ceasefire

12.00.00am GMT Fri 9th Jan 2009

Mike Pringle MSP has called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

His call comes in the wake of further news reports of violence in the region as the Israeli army continues to advance and Hamas retaliates with rocket attacks.

Mike Pringle said

"We have all been distressed by the horrific news from Gaza.

"Diplomatic strategy has been replaced by violence and military tactics. There have been casulties on both sides and aid is not getting to people who desperately need it.

"I would like to use the opportunity to call for an immediate ceasefire, the fighting must stop and aid be allowed to get through.

"Then the two sides must get round the negotiating table to find a diplomatic solution. The killing must stop and the discussions must start."
